The Butterfly Room
A late birthday or early Christmas gift to my friend, who introduced me to both Doctor Who and the concept of the butterfly room in the TARDIS.
Through working on this project, I have learned that I really adore painting landscapes, almost as much as I love painting outer space. Every painting is a learning experience and I enjoy pushing my limits. This time: lighting, flowering bushes, paved walkways, and a myriad of butterflies! <3<3
Medium: Photoshop CS
Completed: Dec. 2, 2013
GAAAAAAAH this is so perfect, so gorgeous! Such a wonderful glimpse of what The Butterfly Room in the TARDIS might look like! And Clara would absolutely have a frolic through it as I imagine Charley must have once had, and perhaps other companions as well. One of the Doctor’s many hidden, cherished secrets, a peaceful retreat from the craziness that is his life.
This is the perfect gift, Dorothy! Thank you so much! I can’t stop staring at all the details, from those butterflies to the cobblestone path to Clara’s dress…just…wow. I would love to lose myself in this place. Especially back when I could be sure that the Eighth Doctor would eventually come wandering in to find me. *______* I need this on my wall.
My little tribute to the Doctor Who 50th Anniversary Episode “The Day of the Doctor.” It was brilliant. SIMPLY BRILLIANT! I won’t spoil anything, but for those of you who saw it, you should kind of get the idea behind it, as well as the meaning behind the title. :)
I wanted to show Eleven specifically, since he is the only one who will go on to remember the events (Timey wimey stuff hehe). Sad that this is my first painting featuring Eleven, and you don’t even see his face. Haha!
I got struck with this inspiration today, just had to draw it before I lost the mojo. Enjoy!
Came across this the other day, signed it immediately. I mean, why not?! Any chance at all for Paul McGann to portray the Eighth Doctor on-screen again is worth pushing for. Even if nothing ever comes of it, perhaps someone with influence in the BBC might at least take notice of all the interest and support behind the idea?
17,000 signatures already! <3<3
I received an awesome note the other night from wickedlover010, and upon opening it discovered this adorable photo!
Based on my Doctor Who painting “Time and Space”:
I had never thought of anyone cosplaying my Doctor Who artwork before, and it touched me so much. I could not stop smiling! I’m still smiling. :D It was such a wonderful gesture, and an unexpected joy to see my visions given a whole new level of life and meaning. It was a much-needed treat in the middle of a very demanding work month.
Since I have not hosted a contest in years, I was thinking that this might be a fun theme to play with, something more casual and creative (and a reason for fellow Whovians to dress up, if you have costumes)? If anyone might be interested in giving it a try, here are the rules and prizes (so far):
RULES: -Choose one (or more) of my original Doctor Who artworks from my gallery HERE (or HERE) and try to cosplay it to the best of your ability. Super massive points for pose accuracy and attention to detail, but of course any effort alone is appreciated!<3<3
-When you post your photo/s online, please link to the image that inspired the photo. Submit your entry to me via my DeviantArt, Tumblr note or e-mail: email@example.com
-Please don’t substitute Doctors or companions -if the artwork is of the Eighth Doctor, don’t cosplay Ten or Eleven in the same role; if the companion is River, don’t substitute with Jack or Rose, etc. Please try to re-create the artwork as it was originally intended.
-Contest is currently open until the end of the year (1am January 1st is the tentative deadline!)
PRIZES: The winners will each receive:
-A hand-signed print of any artwork of their choice from my Store!
-A grab-bag of other art goodies from me.
-A feature in my journal on DeviantArt, perhaps also a permanent post here on my Tumblr account and Meadowhaven website.
(If anyone would like to donate more prize incentives for the winners, please send me a note!) All questions, thoughts and suggestions are welcome—just note them to me! :)

The 8th Doctor - Big Finish Tribute (by sss979)
MY POOR FEELS
HE COULD SAY IT TO CHARLEY BUT HE COULDN’T SAY IT TO ROSE.
I will always love this vid. Seriously, everyone, the Big Finish audio dramas are amazing. They’re NOT audiobooks (although there are audiobooks available), they’re full-cast productions. It’s like watching Doctor Who episodes playing inside your head. <3<3
And I just realized that Eight actually said: “If I’m going to die, I want to die alone.” …AND HE DID! *cries forever*
Because Eight is worth it.
"You’re a timelord."
No but do you guys understand? This is the moment The Eighth Doctor died. In the middle of the Last Great Time War he was racing about trying to minimize the damage, trying to save and to aid everyone he could. He picked up the distress call of a lone random ship and he boarded it in an effort to save the pilot. One single woman he had never met before—one soul out of billions. Because that is Eight. That is the Doctor.
But when she refused his aid, when she threw it in his face because of what the rest of his kind were doing to the universe, that is when he accepted that his existence no longer had meaning. He could no longer help, he could no longer save anyone. He had become indistinguishable from the enemy, he could no longer make a difference. Of what purpose is a Doctor who cannot heal? He had time to save himself there, to abandon Cass and step back into his TARDIS and escape before the crash, but he didn’t. He stayed. He chose to die alongside the last person he failed to save, because he had lost all hope.
Eight CHOSE to die. It’s possible he never intended to come back. He wouldn’t have regenerated if the Sisters hadn’t forcibly revived him, told him his life still had worth, even if in a way he never, ever wanted.
That is why he became the Warrior. He was dead already. It was done without choice, against his nature, outside the promise he made when he first chose the name “Doctor.” He took up Cass’ role, adopted her cause, because there was still a chance for someone to end the bloodshed once and for all. That someone might as well be a nameless warrior living on borrowed time. The Doctor was dead already.
"A Rose With A Thorn"
My tribute to the beautiful Eighth Doctor—whom I love so very, very much. Despite the traumatic circumstances of his regeneration (he woke up freezing in a morgue, for goodness’ sake!), he is bright, enthusiastic, honest, and one of the sweetest and most passionate Doctors ever. Though, at times, the pendulum too easily swings to a darker, colder nature full of snark and weary of battle. Over time he is broken by pain and loss, driven to the edge of insanity and heartbreak, until at last the Time War destroys him. Every Doctor since has had to cope with the memory of what Eight endured…and usually ends up following a similar pattern. I’ve tried to capture that transition, from his beautiful, golden beginning, to his broken, hardened, world-weary end.
